Bondar Tabbed Big South Freshman of the Week
Charlotte, N.C. - Sara Bondar of the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team earned her third Big South Freshman of the Week honor of the season on Tuesday as the conference announced its weekly award recipients.
Bondar helped Coastal win its 12th straight match last week as the freshman notched singles and doubles wins in the Chanticleers' 5-2 home victory over Winthrop.
Paired with Cari Berry at No. 3, Bondar helped even the doubles point after the Eagles had won the No. 1 match. Coastal would eventually clinch the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
That lead was erased as play turned to singles and Winthrop took the first point, but Bondar put Coastal back in front for good after downing Tijana Uzelac 6-4, 6-2 on the fourth court.
Bondar is currently 13-4 overall in singles matches, and has lost just one of her seven matches against Big South opponents. She has spent the majority of the season playing the No. 4 position where she boasts a perfect 8-0 record. In doubles, Bondar has seen action on all three courts while posting a 10-7, 5-2 record.
Coastal is back in action on Wednesday hosting Charleston Southern for its final home match of the season at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex. So far the Chants are a perfect 6-0 in their new facility. The Bucs will present one of the toughest challenges for Coastal this season as they currently sit in second place in the Big South with a 13-2, 7-1 record.
