CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team swept the Big South weekly women’s tennis awards when junior Diana Mortlock was named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, and teammate Mikaela Kristofersson was named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday.  

Mortlock went 5-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles last week to help the Chanticleers to a 4-1 record during their spring break trip in Florida.  She and Miki Bunea earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Fairleigh Dickinson, and Mortlock followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. 

Mortlock and Bunea went on to blank Navy 8-0 the following day at No. 2 doubles before Mortlock clinched the win by defeating Erin Snooks 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

Against Drake, Mortlock won both doubles (8-6) and singles (6-2, 6-3) to help the Chanticleers to a 6-1 win over the Bulldogs.  Mortlock continued her winning ways in the following match when she turned in an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Bradley.  She rallied to defeat Sarah Rodefeld 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 at No. 2 singles to help Coastal down the Braves. 

Mortlock finished the week with the only point in the Chants’ 5-1 loss to Florida Atlantic, defeating Virginia Augustin 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. 

Kristofersson earned her third freshman of the week plaudit after registering a 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles and a 3-1 mark in singles last week. 

She and teammate Lexi Bolesky teamed up to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson (8-1), Navy (8-2) and Drake (8-3) at No. 1 doubles.  In addition, Kristofersson earned wins at No. 4 singles against Fairleigh Dickinson (6-2, 6-3) and Navy (6-1, 6-3) before moving up one spot and earning a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jessica Aquilera of Drake at No. 3 singles.
