Women's Tennis Beats High Point 7-0 in Big South Play

The Coastal Carolina University women’s tennis team (10-4, 3-0 Big South) won all nine matches for the third time in Big South play as the Lady Chanticleers defeated High Point University 7-0 March 19 in Conway, S.C. Coastal has now won five matches in a row.

Coastal swept the singles matches, winning all in straight sets. At number-two singles, senior Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France) defeated Ann-Charlott Talus 6-3, 6-0. Senior Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio) won at number-one singles 6-3, 7-5 over Suzanne Celensu. Freshman Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) both won first-set tiebreaks and defeated Charlotte Vallee and Sarah McDonough, respectively. Junior Petra Jantti (Haukiverkko Espo, Finland) and junior Rosemary Younger (Atlanta, Ga.) also won their matches. Jantti defeated Iris Schabetsburger 6-1, 7-5 and Younger beat Connie Wicks 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Matrka and Dinh won at number-one doubles over Celensu and Talus 8-6. Jantti and Ahlberg defeated Schabetsburger and Jennifer Messick 8-4 and Coetzee and Younger beat McDonough and Wicks 8-2.

Coastal hosts Charleston Southern Thursday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m.
