Women's Tennis Defeats Western Carolina 5-0

The Coastal Carolina University women’s tennis team (8-4) defeated Western Carolina University (3-5) 5-0 March 11 in Cullowhee, N.C. The match was delayed an hour due to blustery and snowy conditions.

Coastal won all three doubles matches and took four singles matches over the Catamounts. At number-one singles, senior Marie Matkra (Wilmington, Ohio) defeated Tricia Hanson 6-1, 6-2. Senior Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France) beat Katherine Ptak 6-2, 6-2 at number-two singles. Sophomore Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and sophomore Nicole Lemmerer (Bad Mitterndorf, Austria) also won straight set matches, including 6-0, 6-0 by Lemmerer.

In doubles, Matrka and Dinh won 8-1 over Hanson and Ptak. Coetzee and junior Rosemary Younger (Atlanta, Ga.) won over April Yount and Susanna Sjokvist 8-0.

Coastal will stay in Western North Carolina to face the University of North Carolina at Asheville Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m.
