Women's Tennis Wins On the Road at UNC Asheville, 6-1

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team came out strong after a week’s rest to earn a 6-1 Big South Conference victory over UNC Asheville Sunday, March 9 in Asheville, N.C.
 
The doubles point was swept by the Lady Chanticleers. Freshman Lexi Bolesky (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington) and senior Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Ga./Brookwood (Georgia Southern)) defeated Louise Bottomley and Leslie Smith 8-6 in No. 1 doubles. The victory puts the dynamic duo at 8-1 on the season. In the No. 2 doubles slot sophomore Maria Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Lomar del Real) and junior Tina Petkova (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/St.Ignatius (Toronto)) took an 8-1 win over Asheville’s Whitney Abbott and Stephanie Schon. Senior Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan) and sophomore Kim Webb (Usk, Wales/Millfield) won the match 8-3 at No. 3 doubles over Nicole Schon and Tania Mateva.
 
The Lady Chants took all but one match in singles play. Pazahanick defeated Louise Bottomley 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 2 slot. In the No. 3 spot, Webb earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Stephanie Schon. Petkova forced a third-set tie breaker over Asheville’s Nicole Schon in No. 4 singles to take the match 5-7, 7-4, 14-12. Ahlberg extended her winning streak to eight as she defeated Mateva 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 slot. The final CCU victory came from Camberos in the No. 6 position with a 7-6, 6-1 victory against Abbott.
 
Coastal plays next against North Carolina A&T as they travel to Greensboro, N.C. Friday, March 14. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
