Cox Named Sun Belt Player of the Week
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Rylie Cox of the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team has been named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced Wednesday.
Cox is the first Chanticleer to receive the conference's weekly award this season, and is earning the first of her career.
The Rockwall, Texas, native led the Chants to a 2-1 mark last week with wins against St. John's and East Carolina, and a loss at #11 South Carolina. Cox was unbeaten in a pair of singles matches, and won two of her three doubles appearances.
She opened the week with a three-set win against St. John's on the second singles court before moving to the third court against East Carolina, where she was victorious in straight sets.
In doubles, Cox paired with Jessie Mount to win a No. 2 match against St. John's, and a No. 3 match against East Carolina.
Cox is 6-3 overall in singles this season while playing on the top three courts, and boasts a team-leading 8-2 doubles record while playing mainly at No. 3.
Cox and the Chanticleers are next in action on March 6 when they face Davidson in a neutral-site match in Orlando, Fla.
