Women's Tennis Keeps Perfect Record with a 4-2 victory over East Carolina
CONWAY, S.C. Coastal Carolinas womens tennis team (7-0, 1-0 Big South) defeated East Carolina, 4-2, to win their seventh straight match of the 2006 season, Friday, Feb. 24 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
East Carolina challenged CCUs perfect doubles record by winning two of the three matches. Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France/Sophia) and Hayley Rudman (Johannesburg, South Africa/Norhcliff (Mississippi State)) fell in a close 7-9 match, while Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Oranje Meisisekool (Texas Tech)) and Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan) fell, 6-8. The team of Petra Jantti (Haukiverkko Espo, Finland/Tapiolan Lukio)) and Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Ga./Brookwood (Georgia Southern)) recorded their sixth straight doubles win, 8-2.
CCU rallied in the singles matches to win the four singles points with four victories. Jantti marked her seventh straight singles win of the season, as she defeated Bailey, 6-2, 6-3. Rudman won at the number one singles spot, 6-4, 6-3. Coetzeedefeated Borges, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 and Pazahanick won 6-3, 6-1.
The Lady Chanticleers will now host Western Carolina Saturday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.
