The Coastal Carolina University womens tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 4-3 nailbiter against UNC Greensboro (2-3) Feb. 19, in Greensboro, N.C.
Coastal took the all-important doubles point, as seniors Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio) and Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France) defeated Lisa Suggs and Erica Zabkar 8-4 and sophomore Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and junior Rosemary Younger (Atlanta, Ga.) defeated Emily Wade and Whitney Miles 8-4.
Matrka stayed unbeaten in singles on the year, defeated Suggs 6-4, 7-5. At number-two singles, Dinh defeated Miles 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Nicole Lemmerer (Bad Mitterndorf, Austia) won her match against Sophie Rychlik 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a three-set thriller.
Coastal will get back in action tomorrow (Feb. 20) with a home match against the College of Charleston. That begins at 1 p.m., at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
