Women's Tennis Bests North Carolina A&T 7-0

The Coastal Carolina University women’s tennis team (2-0) remained unbeaten on the young season with a 7-0 win over North Carolina A&T Feb. 13, at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.

Coastal won all nine matches against the Aggies. In doubles, seniors Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio) and Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France) defeated Tracy Ross and Shannon Pittman 8-0. Sophomore Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and junior Rosemary Younger (Atlanta, Ga.) also won an 8-0 match over Terika Palmer and Christina Ruffin.

All six singles matches were won in straight sets. Dinh won 6-0, 6-0 over Haniyyah Madyun, while Matrka defeated Karissa Johnson 6-0, 6-1. Junior Petra Jantti (Haukiverkko Espo, Finland) defeated Kathryn Jackson 6-1, 6-0. Coetzee, sophomore Nicole Lemmerer (Bad Mitterndorf, Austria) and freshman Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden) also won in straight sets.

Coastal travels to UNC Greensboro Saturday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. The next home match for Coastal is Sunday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. against the College of Charleston.
