Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's tennis team topped Queens University, 7-0, at the Prestwick Country Club, Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 5. With the sweep, the Lady Chanticleers improve to 2-1 on the young campaign, while the Royals fall to 0-1.
The No. 1 doubles team or freshman Lexi Bolesky (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington) and senior Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Georgia/Brookwood (Georgia Southern)) improved to 3-0 on the season an 8-3 victory over Merissa Rock and Skye Powell. At the No. 2 slot, sophomore Kim Webb (Usk, Wales/Millfield School) and senior Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan) picked up 8-0 decision over Amanda LaRocco and Beth Pryor. Queens forfeited at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Bolesky downed Rock 6-1, 6-3, while Pazahanick claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Powell. Tina Petkova (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/St. Ignatius of Loyola) claimed an 6-0, 6-0 decision over LaRocco. Freshman Fernanda Shalders (Victoria-Es, Brazil/Centro Estadual Educado Jovense Adultos De Vitoria) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 spot. Queens forfeited at the No. 6 slot.
"We went out and did what we had to do," Head Coach Jody Davis said. "Our goal now is to get ready for a big weekend against a couple of good teams."
Coastal continues its five match homestand, Saturday, Feb. 9, facing both Winston-Salem State and Campbell, at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. The match is set to take place at Myrtle Beach High School in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
