Feb. 6 - Presbyterian, Noon
The Coastal Carolina womens tennis team (0-0) will open the 2005 season with a noon match against Presbyterian College Sunday, Feb. 6, at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center on campus. Coastals match with Gardner-Webb was postponed due to weather.
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN: Presbyterian (0-0) went 12-5 last season, including a 3-1 record in the SAC. The Blue Hose went to the Division II Southeast Regional, where they lost to Rollins 6-1. Presbyterian faces Francis Marion and Charleston Southern before its match against Coastal.
HEAD COACH JODY DAVIS: Jody Davis (Coastal Carolina 84) enters his ninth season as head coach of the Coastal Carolina womens tennis program. Davis has an impressive 111-46 record with the womens squad, including coaching five Big South Conference Players of the Year (including Medina Bajrambasic in 2004), three Big South Rookies of the Year and 24 All-Conference team members, including Bajrambasic and Marie Matrka last season.
MATRKA MOVING UP WINS CHART: Senior Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio) starts her senior season ranked third in all-time singles wins (74) and fourth in all-time doubles wins (75) at Coastal. The 2004 Third Team Academic All-America selection trails Emma Kidd (114) and Medina Bajrambasic (105) in singles wins.
RAIN FORCES POSTPONEMENT: The Coastal-Gardner-Webb tennis match scheduled for Jan. 29 was postponed due to weather in Conway and in Boiling Springs. No make-up date has been scheduled.
UP NEXT: Coastal travels to Buies Creek, N.C., to face Campbell Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Chants then will face North Carolina A&T at home Feb. 13, at 1 p.m.
