Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener at College of Charleston, 6-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team opened up the 2009 season, losing a tough 6-1 decision at College of Charleston, Jan. 30. The dual match was played at the Cougars' home courts at Patriots Point in Charleston, S.C.

The Cougars took the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, though sophomore Lexi Bolesky (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington) and freshman Caitlyn Brooksbank (Viewbank, Victoria, Australia/Our Lady of Mercy) went down in a tough battle at No. 1. In singles, Brooksbank got the only victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Holly Dowse. Bolesky and senior Tina Petkova (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/St. Ignatius of Loyola) both went to three sets in their respective matches at No. 1 and 2 before falling to the host Cougars.

The Chanticleers will return home for three matches next weekend at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. The three-match weekend homestand kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 7 with the Chanticleers hosting Western Carolina at 9 a.m. followed by a dual with North Carolina A&T at 3 p.m. The weekend concludes with Big South newcomer Presbyterian coming to Conway on Sunday, Feb. 8 for a noon clash.
