Womens Tennis Drops Season Opener, 7-0, at the College of Charleston
More Information: MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team dropped its 2008 spring season opener, 7-0, against the College of Charleston, Sunday afternoon (Jan. 27), at Patriots Point. The match served as the season opener for both squads.
The Lady Chanticleers picked up its lone victory in No. 1 doubles as freshman Lexi Bolesky (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington) and senior Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Georgia/Brookwood (Georgia Southern)) downed Link Leskosky and Laura Borza, 8-6. Also in doubles action, sophomore Maria Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Lomar del Real) and junior Tina Petkova (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/St. Ignatius of Loyola) dropped an 8-3 decision in the No. 2 slot and senior Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm,Sweden/Adalsskolan) and sophomore Kim Webb (Usk, Wales/Millfield School) fell 9-7 in the three spot.
The Cougars swept all six singles match-ups. Bolesky pushed Chelsea Albertz to three sets in the top spot but fell, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Pazahanick dropped a 7-5, 7-5 decision to Leskowsky, while Webb fell, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 to Borza. Ahlberg was downed by Holly Howse (6-1, 6-3). Freshman Fernanda Shalders (Victoria-Es, Brazil/Centro Estadual Educado Jovense Adultos De Vitoria) fell, 6-1, 6-1 and Camberos dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision.
The Lady Chants return to the court hosting Appalachian State, Sat. Feb. 2 at 12 p.m.
