Boone, N.C. - Coastal Carolina women's tennis ended the two-day Appalachian State Fall Invitational winning two flights outright, and tying for the lead in two others.

In the first singles flight, Libby Scott finished 2-1 to share the lead with Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell and East Carolina's Neena Wanko. Scott dropped her first match to Linsell 6-3, 4-6(10-7), before rallying to take the final two matches in the flight against Wanko (6-3, 6-4(10-8)) and Presbyterian's Caroline de Loach (6-2, 6-2).

In the eighth singles flight, Vanessa Ortiz won all four of her matches to take the outright lead in the flight. Moreover, Ortiz did not drop a single set in all four matches as she downed East Carolina's Karling Watson and Vanessa Fuleihan, as well as Presbyterian's Haley Elliot and Appalachian State's Carson Shell.

The winning continued for Coastal as the fall tournament switched to doubles competition.

The CCU duo of Libby Scott and Kourtney Kowal recorded three victories in the first doubles flight to win the flight outright. The pair downed Appalachian State's Linsell-Lasure 8-4, East Carolina's Zhang-Terpko 8-5, and North Carolina Central's Muamba-Wood 8-6.

Alicia Robinson and Vanessa Ortiz also played well together, going 2-1 in the fourth doubles flight to share the lead with the mixed pair of PC's Elliott and NCCU's Ramic. Robinson and Ortiz recorded victories against Elliot-Ramic 8-6 and ASU's Shell-King 8-5 before dropping their final match to ECU's Richmond-Watson 8-5.

The Appalachian State Fall Tournament marked the end of the Chant's fall schedule. Women's tennis will begin their 2013 spring campaign on Jan. 31, when they travel to Furman for a 3 p.m. contest. The team's first home match will be on Feb. 9 when they host Savannah State.
