WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University women's tennis team had some solid results at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships hosted by Wake Forest University, Oct. 22-26.

In the singles main draw, the top Chanticleer was Miki Bunea, as she won her opening round match against Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell, 6-4, 6-1. She then played Keri Wong of Clemson, one of the top 16 seeds and fell 6-1, 6-2. Lexi Bolesky was also in the main draw but lost her opening round match to Clemson's Laurianne Henry, 6-2, 6-2.

The duo of Bolesky and Bunea also was in the main doubles draw, where they defeated Winston-Salem State's Chelsea Chatman and Kalin Jarvis, 8-0, before losing to No. 2 seed Josipa Bek and Ina Hadziselimovic of Clemson, 8-4. The Clemson pair went on to be tournament runner-up, but the match with the Chants was one of their most challenging of the weekend.

Also in doubles, Mary Hill and Paty Cortes paired up and advanced out of the opening round on an injury default and then defeated Cameron Chatman and Ashley Rogers of North Carolina Central, 8-0. The pair then fell out of the tournament on a 8-3 loss to No. 8 seed Martina Pavelec and Sasha Kulikova of Wake Forest.

Cortes and Hill both tried to qualify for the main draw in singles. Hill defeated Winthrop's Sandra Herrera, 6-4, 6-2 before losing to North Carolina's Jocelyn Ffriend, 6-2, 6-1, for a place in the main draw. Cortes dropped her opening round match to North Carolina's Linzee Mabrey, 6-1, 7-5.

" This was a great experience for our team, we found out how good the ACC teams were," Head Coach Jody Davis said. We were competitive in spots. Our main goal now is to maintain training and put ourselves in a position to play for a Big South Championship in the spring."

The Chanticleers will wrap up the fall portion of the schedule at the 2009 UNCW Invitational, Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Wilmington, N.C.
