Chapel Hill, N.C. - Libby Scott and Honami Yazawa of the Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team won a first round doubles match on Thursday to open play at the ITA Carolina Regional hosted by the University of North Carolina.
The Chanticleer duo, facing Taylor Casey and Maria Camara of Elon, took an 8-5 victory in the first round of the main doubles draw. The pair advance to the second round, where they will face fifth-seeded Tristen Dewar and Yana Korleva of Clemson.
Coastal’s second doubles pair of Marie Babayan and Romane Delay received a first round bye, and will also be competing in a second-round match on Friday. The pair will square off against Havley Carter and Jamie Loeb of host UNC.
Yazawa and Delay also competed in the qualifying singles draw on Thursday.
Delay fell in the first round, 6-4, 6-3, to Tijana Uzelac of Winthrop.
Yazawa was able to advance to the second round of the draw, defeating Natsuko Takayanagi of Charlotte in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Yazawa then fell in the second round to Margaret Boyette, 7-5, 6-3.
