CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina women's tennis went 2-8 against stiff competition on the final day of the UNC Charlotte Fall Invitational.

The Chants started the day with two doubles matches against Charlotte. The CCU pair of Libby Scott and Kourtney Kowal were barely edged out by Lisa Grosselius and Anna Ekelund in a close match that ended 9-8 (6). The Chants then claimed a victory as Vanessa Ortiz, who was paired with East Carolina's Dana Gray, downed Charlotte's Perez and Johnson.

The women then moved on to face UNC Greensboro in singles matches where the Spartans ended up sweeping the Chants, taking all four matches.

The final matches of the day saw the Chants finish 1-3 in singles against ECU. Scott and Kowal both dropped their decisions in straight sets. Shelby Bates also suffered a loss in a hard-fought match against Nicole Laduca, who took the match in the third set 6-1, 3-6, 13-11.

The sole winner against ECU was Mikaela Davies, who participated in a marathon match against Abby Richmond. Davies took the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 5-7. Davies and Richmond battled back and forth in the third before Davies finally took the set 12-10 to win the match.

The Chants will next be in action Friday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Boone, N.C., to wrap up their fall season at the Appalachian State Fall Invitational.
