Charlotte, N.C. - Coastal Carolina women's tennis kicked off day one at the UNC Charlotte Fall Invitational with two doubles and two singles victories.
Coastal first squared off against East Carolina in doubles action with Kourtney Kowal and Libby Scott facing Danielle Terpko and Ylian Zhang while Shelby Bates and Mikaela Davies competed against Nicole LaDuca and Melis Tanik. Each CCU pair walked away with a victory as Kowal/Scott won 8-3 and Bates/Davies took their match 9-7.
The Chants did not fare as well against UNCG in doubles action as Kowal/Scott dropped their decision 8-4 and Davies/Bates were dispatched 8-0.
The Chants finished 2-3 on the day in singles action as Libby Scott and Shelby Bates walked away with victories. Scott downed Alexandra Zinn in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Bates split her first two sets 6-3, 2-6 before taking the third set 10-8.
Kowal, Davies and Vaness Ortiz all dropped their first matches in singles competition.
"I thought we got off to a very nice start today against East Carolina in doubles," said coach Catherine Hewitt. " The girls worked very well together and had great energy. We showed much improvement in singles and look to carry that into tomorrow's play."
The Chants will look to wrap up the Charlotte Invitational as play resumes Saturday morning.
