RADFORD, VA. - No. 2 Winthrop outlasted No. 3 Coastal Carolina, 4-3, in the semifinals of the 2010 Big South Women’s Tennis Championships Friday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts. Winthrop will face top-seeded Charleston Southern in the Big South Women’s Tennis Final tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
 
Winthrop took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. The team of Yasmine Alkema and Elizaveta Zaytseva secured the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over Lexi Bolesky and Miki Bunea at No. 1.  The duo of Sandra Herrera and Giovanna Portiolli defeated Paty Cortes and Mary Hill, 8-6, at on court two.

Winthrop increased their lead to 2-0 with a straight-set win by Herrera, 6-2, 6-0 over Webb.  Alkema pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Bolesky.  
 
The Chanticleers recorded three straight-set wins at No. 4 by Cortes (6-4, 6-3), No. 2 with Miki Bunea (7-6, 6-3) and Mary Hill at No. 6 (6-3, 6-2) to even it at 3-3.

On court 5, WU's Lisa Wilkinson battled with Coastal's Maria Camberos, with Camberos getting the first set, 6-3. However, Wilkinson came back with a pair of 6-3 set victories of her own to clinch the match for the Eagles and advance them to the championship match.

The Chanticleers end the 2010 season with a 19-6 record after making their 17th straight appearance in the Big South semifinals.
