Women's Tennis Beats Liberty To Reach Big South Championships Final

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team earned a berth in the finals of the Big South Championships following a 4-1 victory over Liberty Friday afternoon from the Charlotte Indoor Tennis Center. 

The match was moved indoors and north to Charlotte due to inclement weather in and around the Rock Hill, S.C., area. 

Coastal Carolina won the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead over the Flames.  Juniors Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock won the first doubles match of the afternoon when they bested Alexandra Sheeran and Rebekah Jenkins 8-1 at the No. 2 position.  

Liberty responded with an 8-6 win at the No. 3 position, but Chanticleer senior Lexi Bolesky and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson clinched the point with an 8-3 win at No. 1 over Jordan Jenkins and Hannah Fick. 

Bunea put the Chants up 2-0 when she defeated Fick 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles position before the Flames pulled to within one point at 2-1 following a victory from Cameron Richard. 

Bolesky gave Coastal a 3-1 advantage after she downed Jenkins 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 position, and Kristofersson sealed the win with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Sheeran at No. 4.

The final two singles matches were unnecessary and were not finished.

The No. 2 seed Chanticleers will play for the tournament title Saturday morning against No. 1 seed Winthrop.
