Women's Tennis Sweeps Liberty 4-0

Coastal advances to semifinals to face Charleston Southern at 1 p.m.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team swept Liberty 4-0 in the first round of the Big South Tennis Championship Thursday night at the Asheville Racquet Club South.

In doubles action, Coastal dropped the first match but won the following two, earning the doubles point. All-conference selections Kourtney Kowal and Maria Hesketh won the decisive doubles match 9-8 to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Coastal proceeded to win the first three singles matches led by Mikaela Kristofersson winning 6-1, 6-1 over Rebekah Jenkins in the fourth flight. Kowal defeated Nicoala Wellman 6-0, 7-5 to put the Chants up 3-0. Katie Fosnacht clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Coastal improved to 17-5 on the year while Liberty fell to 11-12. The Chanticleers advanced to the semifinals match to face the face Charleston Southern who blanked Campbell 4-0. The semifinal match is slated for 1 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club South.
