CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University women's tennis team handled Senior Day with style, defeating visiting Presbyterian, 7-0, April 11. With the win, the Chanticleers moved to 17-5 on the year and 4-2 in the Big South Conference, while the Blue Hose fell to 4-16 and 1-6 in league play. Coastal completed the 2010 home slate with a perfect 12-0 mark.
It was the final home match for CCU's three seniors - Maria Camberos, Kim Webb and Paty Cortes, and all three won their singles and doubles matchups on the day. The Chanticleers swept all nine matches, winning all three doubles and all six singles in straight sets. In doubles, the closest was at the top, as junior Lexi Bolesky and sophomore Miki Bunea defeated Heather Heusel and Paige Oelke, 8-6. Senior Paty Cortes and freshman Mary Hill took an 8-2 victory over Olivia McMillan and Virginia Waldron, while seniors Kim Webb and Maria Camberos earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 over PC's Megan Davis and Daryl Thompson.
As a team, Coastal only lost a combined 21 total games in singles, including two sweeps at 6-0, 6-0 by Bolesky at No. 1 and Cortes at No. 4. The closest battle was at No. 2, as Bunea defeated McMillan, 6-4, 6-4.
"This was a great Senior Day," Head Coach Jody Davis said. "All of our seniors were able to go out winners. It was great to have them in the program. Now our focus is Gardner-Webb and getting ready for the Big South Conference Championships next week."
Coastal Carolina will wrap up the regular season Thursday at Gardner-Webb in a key Big South Conference matchup. The match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
