Women's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision At Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. –  The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team saw its five-match winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon in a 4-3 loss at Liberty from the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.

Liberty took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point by claiming two of the three matches.  Carol Lobel and Valeriya Klintsevich grabbed an early edge by winning 8-3 in the first match over senior Caitlyn Brooksbank and freshman Kourtney Kowal at the No. 3 position. 

The Chants won the second match following an 8-3 win from juniors Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock over Cameron Richard and Alexandra Sheeran at No. 2.  The Flames, however, took the point after Jordan Jenkins and Hannah Fick bested senior Lexi Bolesky and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson at No. 1. 

Coastal Carolina tied the score 1-1 when Mortlock turned in a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Lobel at No. 5 singles before Bunea put the Chants ahead 2-1 with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Fick at No. 2. 

Sheeran pulled Liberty even with Coastal when she downed Kristofersson 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4, but the Chants quickly regained the lead following a 6-3, 7-6 win by Maria Hesketh over Annisha Domenech at No. 6. 

The Flames, however, won the final two matches en route to the victory. 

Coastal Carolina returns to action Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. when the Chanticleers travel to Clinton, S.C., to take on Presbyterian.
