Women's Tennis Falls to Georgia State

MOBILE, Ala. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team suffered its second tough Sun Belt defeat of the weekend on Sunday as the Chanticleers fell 4-0 to Georgia State in a neutral-site match played at South Alabama.

The loss drops Coastal to 14-6 overall, and 1-3 in conference matches.

Coastal struck first in doubles with a 6-2 win on the top court by Sara Bondar and Marie Babayan, but it would be the only match won by the Chants.

Georgia State evened the doubles point on the third court with a 6-4 victory by Anastasia Grosheva and Lara Vovk. GSU's second pairing of Arian Taluyenko and Tarani Kamoe then clinched the point, deafeating Natalie Wall and Rylie Cox, 6-3.

Damira Muminovic provided the first singles point for the Panthers, defeating Maria Khomchenko at No. 5. Taluyenko gave GSU a 3-0 lead with a win over Wall at No. 2. The match-clinching came on the fourth court, where Grosheva bested Bondar in straight sets.

Coastal returns home on Tuesday to close the regular season against Charleston Southern. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m., with senior day ceremonies and the naming dedication of the Stevens Tennis Complex to precede the match.
