CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team closed out its final home match of the season in a winning fashion, downing Radford 5-2 on Monday morning at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.

The win gives the Chanticleers a 17-4 overall record and improves their Big South record to 5-2, keeping them in fifth place in the conference. Radford, meanwhile, falls to 8-10 overall, and remains directly behind Coastal in the conference standings with a 3-4 record.

The match began with singles due to anticipated weather in Conway.

Freshman Marie Babayan gave Coastal its first point of the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Gisela Garcia.

Radford countered with a point at No. 4, where Grace Sarver bested Romane Delay 6-1, 6-2.

Sophomore Libby Scott regained the lead for the Chants, downing Taylor Newman in straight sets at No. 1 to advance her singles record against Big South opponents to 7-0.

Freshman Honami Yazawa put the Chants up 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Radford’s Gemma Valls, and senior Amanda Malatek clinched the match for Coastal at No. 6, besting Sara Andrade 6-4, 6-4.

The No. 4 singles match between Radford’s Meg Napolitano and Coastal’s Kourtney Kowal was cut short in the third set since the match was already clinched. Tied at 4-4 in the third set, Napolitano and Kowal played a tiebreaker, with Napolitano coming out on top 8-6.

Coastal grabbed the final point of the match as play shifted to doubles, claiming wins on all three courts.

Yazawa and Scott teamed up to deliver to an 8-4 loss to Valls and Newman at No. 1, while Dominique De Wit and partner Delay won an 8-6 match against Napolitano and Sarver at No. 2. Malatek and Babayan won their 13th doubles match of the season together at No. 3 with an 8-2 decision at No. 3.
