Women's Tennis Downs Charlotte 5-2 For Fourth Straight Win

CONWAY, S.C. –  The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team won its fourth straight match following a 5-2 victory over Charlotte Saturday afternoon from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. 

Charlotte jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.  Despite losing the point, juniors Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock earned a win at No. 2 when the duo defeated Emmanuelle Briant and Iveta Guneva 8-3. 

The Chanticleers tied the score 1-1 after Bunea downed Andrea Rivera 6-1, ret. at the No. 2 singles position.  Senior Lexi Bolesky put Coastal ahead 2-0 when she bested Alexandra Zinn 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. 

Coastal pushed its lead to 3-1 following a 6-3, 6-0 win by Mikaela Kristofersson over Briant at the No. 4 position.  Mortlock clinched the win for the Chants when she defeated Anna Ekelund 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5. 

Senior Caitlyn Brooksbank turned in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over Gabi Vergara at No. 3. 

"Charlotte came in really ready to play today and they tested us," Coastal Carolina head coach Jody Davis said.  "Hopefully this was a great way to prepare us for a big match tomorrow with Winthrop."

Coastal Carolina returns to action Sunday at noon when the Chants host Winthrop from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
