CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team won for the fifth time in its last six matches Tuesday afternoon in a 6-1 victory over Binghamton from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. 

Coastal Carolina (12-4) posted wins in two of the three doubles matches to win the point and grab an early 1-0 lead.  Juniors Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock turned in an 8-3 win over Jillian Santos and Yulia Smirnova at the No. 2 position to put the Chants in prime position to win the point.

Senior Lexi Bolesky and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson clinched the point for Coastal with an 8-4 win over Anna Edelman and Yagmure Gone at No. 1. 

Mortlock put the Chants ahead 2-0 after she defeated Emma Leibowicz 6-2, 6-1 and No. 5 singles.  The Bearcats cut the Chanticleer lead in half, however, when Smirnova posted a victory at No. 3 to leave Binghamton trailing 2-1. 

Freshman Maria Hesketh upped the Coastal lead to 3-1 when she bested Jennifer Fridman 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6, while Kristofersson sealed the victory by downing Marina Bykovskaya 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 position. 

Bunea earned a 6-2, 6-7, 10-5 win over Santos at No. 2 before Bolesky capped the match with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Edelman at the No. 1 position. 

“This was a good win against a quality team,” Coastal Carolina head coach Jody Davis said.  “Hopefully we can build on this win and continue to improve.”

Coastal Carolina returns to action Wednesday at 3 p.m. when the Chanticleers host West Virginia State from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
