ORLANDO, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team returned to its winning way with a 5-2 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Monday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.
The Chants swept all three doubles matches and claimed an early 1-0 lead. Senior Lexi Bolesky and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson started things with an 8-1 victory over Elmine Botes and Irina Dementieva and the No. 1 position before juniors Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Julia Prantl and Egzona Morina at No. 2.
Senior Caitlyn Brooksbank and sophomore Amanda Malatek completed the sweep by besting Emily Napier and Manuela Leme 8-6 at No. 3.
Kristofersson put the Chanticleers ahead 2-0 following her 6-2, 6-1 win over Morina at No. 4 singles, while freshman Maria Hesketh gave Costal a 3-0 edge with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Napier at the No. 6 position.
Mortlock sealed the victory when she earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Leme at No. 5. Bunea capped the match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Dementieva at No. 2.
“Fairleigh Dickinson is a well-coached team and there was some very good tennis played today between us and them,” Coastal Carolina head coach Jody Davis said. “I was pleased with our doubles, and hopefully we can continue to perform well the rest of the week here in Orlando.”
Coastal Carolina will face both Drake and Navy tomorrow in Orlando. The Chants will face Navy at 7:45 a.m. and then Drake at 6:30 p.m.
