CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team returned to its winning ways with a 7-0 victory over Case Monday afternoon from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
Coastal Carolina (7-2) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the first two doubles matches and winning the first point of the afternoon. Freshmen Maria Hesketh and Dominique De Wit posted an 8-1 win over Bianca Patel and Evelyn Qi at the No. 3 position. Senior Lexi Bolesky and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson clinched the point following an 8-1 triumph over Erika Lim and Emily Pham at No. 1.
The Chanticleers continued to be successful in singles and took a 2-0 lead following a 6-2, 6-0 win by Bolesky over Lim at No. 1. De Wit turned in her first victory over her career and gave Coastal a 3-0 lead after besting Qi 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Sophomore Amanda Malatek sealed the match for the Chants with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 over Kathleen Evers. Kristofersson earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Pham, while Hesketh captured a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Patel at No. 4. Senior Caitlyn Brooksbank completed the shutout with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Kara Richardson at No 3.
“It was good to get some different people in the lineup today,” Coastal Carolina head coach Jody Davis said. “We have a very busy stretch of matches coming up, so we will have to prepare well the rest of the week”
Coastal Carolina returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Chants travel to Greenville, N.C., to take on East Carolina.
