STATESBORO, GA. - The Coastal Carolina University women's team went on the road for the first time this year and lost a tough 4-3 match at Georgia Southern, Feb. 20. The Chanticleers fell to 5-1 on the year after dropping the doubles point for the first time this year by winning only one match and then could only manage three singles wins in their first loss of the year.
In doubles, the Chanticleers could only get a win at No. 3, as Paty Cortes and Mary Hill teamed for an 8-4 victory over Natalie Maffet and Jessica Fuller. In the other two doubles matches, Coastal lost tight matches at No. 1 in 9-7 and No. 2 at 8-6.
In singles, the Chants managed just three wins, picking up straight set victories from Miki Bunea (No. 1) and Lexi Bolesky (No. 2) and a default win by Cortes at No. 5. However, the host Eagles got the team victory by winning their three singles matches in the first five decided, getting victories at No. 3, 4 and 6, including a three-set victory by Melanie Rolle over Coastal's Kim Webb at No. 3.
The Chanticleers continue the two-match road trip at Mercer, Sun., Feb. 21 at 11 a.m.
