CONWAY - Coastal Carolina’s women’s tennis team defeated the North Carolina A&T Aggies in a convincing 7-0 fashion.

Coastal Carolina moves back to even at 2-2 on the season while NCA&T remains winless at 0-5.

The Chants took the doubles point quickly, easily winning all three matches. Kourtney Kowal and Mikaela Davies recorded an 8-2 victory over Jayla Scott and April Burrage, Shelby Bates and Alicia Robinson downed Shaunasie Perkins and Victorea Austin 8-2 and Libby Scott and Dominique De Wit blew past Kimbery Stalling and Kendra Harris with a 8-0 win.

The Chants swept all six singles matches as well, each one in straight sets. Libby Scott took a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 over Stalling. Shelby Bates downed Scott 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. Alicia Robinson defeated Austin 6-1, 6-1. Kourtney Kowal grabbed an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Reid. Mikaela Davies clinched the match at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5, and Vanessa Ortiz at No. 6 won 6-0, 6-0 in just her second singles appearance this season.

Coastal’s first match of the day against Coker had already been canceled due to snow and ice. “We were lucky to get this match in today,” head coach Catherine Hewitt said. “The courts were covered with ice this morning due to the snow and rain, but the girls performed well today in the conditions and supported each other while on the court.”

The Chants take to the road next week as they travel to Wofford on Friday for 2 p.m. match.
