ATLANTA, Ga. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team bounced back from its loss to Georgia State on Saturday by defeating Emory University, 6-1, Sunday afternoon.

The Chants even their season record at 2-2 with the victory.

Coastal took the doubles point with wins on the second and third courts, and won all but the second court in singles.

Rylie Cox and Natalie Wall opened singles with a 8-0 shutout at No. 3. Emory evened the point as Bridget Harding and Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico defeated Sara Bondar and Somer Dalla-Bona at No. 1. The point was decided at No. 2, where Alex Tiefel and Iryna Vardanian took an 8-4 victory.

Cox (No. 3) and Vardanian (No. 1) struck first in singles with consecutive straight-sets wins to give the Chants a 3-0 lead. Bondar sealed the match for Coastal by defeating Stephanie Taylor in three sets at No. 4.

Gonzalez-Rico won Emory's lone point at No. 2 before Maria Khomchenko (No. 5) and Alexia Tiefel (No. 6) took their respective courts to close out the match.

Following the match head coach Catherine Hewitt noted she was "very encouraged, as the team is getting better each match."

Coastal plays at Campbell on Wednesday before starting a four-match home stand. The Chants and Camels begin at 2 p.m.
