Softball Announces Signing of Two to National Letter of Intent

Softball Signs Piccirillo, Johnson to National Letter-of-Intent

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University softball program has signed Olivia Piccirillo (Seneca, S.C./Seneca) and Megan Johnson (Pensacola, Fla./Tate) to a National Letter-of-Intent, the program announced today (Dec. 2).

Piccirillo has been an All Region catcher the past two seasons for Seneca. Last season, she led the Bobcats in runs scored with 24 and had a .406 batting average. Piccirillo also excelled behind the plate, throwing out 10 baserunners and picking off another seven behind the dish.

Johnson has been a four-year letterwinner for Tate High School, earning All-Area honors her junior year. The pitcher/second baseman has also excelled on a club level with Georgia Elite.

“Olivia is going to be a great in-state addition to our roster.  She is a player that can play three positions, and has a strong bat,” Associate Head Coach Megan Matthews Buning said. “She will further enhance our teams competitive drive, and is a ‘grit’ player who will give the Chants everything she has each game.”

“Megan is the type of player you just like to watch play. She can pitch and play second base, and has a great up-beat attitude. She is the type of player that will be one of the hardest workers on the roster.”

Both players will join the Chanticleer program for the 2009-10 academic year.

The Chanticleers will open up their 2009 season on Feb. 13 against South Alabama in the Lipton Invitational hosted by the University of Florida.
