CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team recently took a break from preparing for the 2013 season to spend time at the Grand Strand Miracle League.

Chanticleer players visited the league on Friday, Oct. 12 and made a return trip on Saturday, Nov. 3. The team squared off against the league's adult squad, the Mariners, for one game and also played two games with youth teams, pairing up with "buddies" to assist them with hitting and throwing.

"I like the fact that we can go there and help kids and put smiles on their faces," Coastal junior Jessie Winans said. "It really does not feel like community service, it's fun."

The softball squad began working with the league last season and plans to return next year, possibly in the spring.

The Coastal baseball team will visit the league this Saturday, Nov. 10. The Chanticleer men's and women's soccer teams have also previously volunteered their time in support of the league, which provides people with physical and mental disabilities the opportunity to play sports.
