Chanticleers Softball Goes 6-1 in Fall Exhibitions
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team completed its fall schedule by going 6-1 and showing some extra-base potential.
In the seven games, six Chanticleer batters connected for eight home runs, five doubles, a triple and 15 base on balls.
Junior Kassidy Smith went 6-of-18 with three homers and six walks. Timi Tooley, a senior, went 9-of-22 with a double, a triple, a home run and five base on balls. Kailey Mellen, a senior, went 8-of-22 with three doubles and four walks. Newcomers Natalie David (two home runs), Sam Sack (one homer) and Taylor Sweigart (one home run) joined in on the power brigade.
In the circle, Ashley Guillette, the lone returning pitcher from last season, pitched in three games and only allowed one run in 15.2 innings with 16 strikeouts.
"We had a productive fall season and so many players progressed tremendously. There is a real positive vibe with this team and they bring so much energy to the field each day," said head coach Kelley Green. "They have shown that they love the grind. We have a ton of competition for every position on the field which has elevated our focus this fall. I'm looking forward to seeing what this team can do in the spring."
