CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University softball team closed out its fall game schedule, splitting a doubleheader at College of Charleston Saturday, Oct. 16.  The Chanticleers started the day with a 4-1 loss, but finished the series with a 4-2 win.  Coastal concludes the fall season with a 4-2 record.

In game one, the Chants took a 4-1 loss.  Ashley Bagwell got the start in the circle, giving up three runs in four innings pitched while striking out six.  Katelin Edwards pitched in relief, allowing one unearned run to score.

Offensively, Olivia Piccirillo had the only RBI of the game with a fourth inning single that drove in pitch runner Courtney Howell.  Howell was running for Chelsea Pineda, who had a one out double.

In game two, Michelle Evans threw four innings, allowing three hits and no runs.  Megan Johnson came in to finish the game and pick up the win, giving up two runs on six hits.  Johnson finished the day with four strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Evans had a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the fourth inning.  Olivia Williams drove in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh and Desiree Zaragoza added an insurance run with a pinch-hit double.

“After not making good adjustments in the box during game one, I thought we had a better presence at the plate in the second game,” Head Coach Kelley Green said.  “The important thing is that we continue to learn from each game and each play.  We are a better team now than we were last month, so we are moving in the right direction.  We will continue to work hard at practice and throughout the off-season to make sure we are prepared for the spring.”

The Chanticleers will finish up fall practice next week.
