CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University softball team is scheduled to participate in five tournaments and host 25 games during the 2008 season, 21st year Head Coach Jess Dannelly announced today, Oct. 16. The home schedule is highlighted by two teams that finished in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Final Poll as Georgia Tech (No. 19) and South Carolina (No. 21) are each scheduled to travel to CCU Softball Field. The Lady Chanticleers are slated to square off with eight teams that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Tournament and will also face the USA Olympic Team in exhibition action in Clearwater Fla., March 6. 

Coastal will open the 2008 season against Southern Illinois, who was ranked as high as No. 18 in 2007, Feb. 8, during the opening day of action at the Jacksonville Tournament. Following the tournament the Lady Chants will return home hosting a three-way doubleheader between Elon, Maryland and CCU, Feb. 16-17. Coastal will return to Jacksonville, Fla., for the JU Invitational, Feb. 29-March 2. 

The Lady Chants will host a doubleheader with Gardner-Webb (March 4) before heading off to the adidas Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. CCU will also participate in the Owl Classic, hosted by Kennesaw State, March 15-16. 

CCU will open Big South Conference action March 29 at Birmingham-Southern and will also face Charleston Southern and defending BSC Champions Winthrop on the road, while hosting Charleston Southern, Liberty and Radford in league action. All conference matchups are three-game series.

Coastal will also travel to North Carolina (April 16) and N.C. State (April 23) for doubleheaders. 

The Big South Tournament is set for May 8-10, hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. 

The Lady Chants finished the 2007 season 22-34 overall and 7-8 in league action. Coastal was eliminated in the semifinal round of the Big South Tournament. CCU returns six letterwinners and four starters from last year's squad.
