Softball Adds a Pair of Assistant Coaches

Fallowfield and Lockett join the CCU staff

CONWAY, S.C.Cynthia Fallowfield and Sarah Lockett have been named assistant coaches for the Coastal Carolina University softball program, head coach Jess Dannelly announced today. Fallowfield will handle the pitching coach duties, while Lockett will work with the infielders and hitters.

Fallowfield most recently served as a student assistant coach at Brigham Young University for the 2003-04 school year, graduating with a bachelor's in psychology. She was a three-year letterwinner at BYU from 1999-2003, including serving as captain for the 2002-03 season. In just their second year as a program, Fallowfield helped the Cougars to the Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament titles and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The 23-year-old Fallowfield also was a member of the New Zealand National Team during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Fallowfield was a three-sport standout at East Ridge High School, playing volleyball, basketball and softball. She earned All-State, All-Region and All-District accolades her final three years of softball and was named Gatorade Player of the Year in 1998.

Lockett returns to Coastal after having been a graduate assistant coach for two years at Kennesaw State after wrapping up her collegiate playing career there as a NFCA Division II All-American player during the 2001-02 season. However, Lockett is no stranger to the Coastal Carolina program, as she was a three-year starter for the Lady Chanticleers, earning two All-Region selections and leading the CCU to two Big South Conference titles and a pair of NCAA Regional berths. Lockett was the 2001 Big South Conference Player of the Year and Tournament MVP, as she led Coastal to its second consecutive league title and NCAA Regional. Named a CoSIDA Division I Academic All-American First Team member and the 2000 and 2001 Big South Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she currently shares the single-season home run record for CCU at 15 and, in just three years of play, ranks in the top 10 in career home runs, batting average, hits, doubles, runs scored, runs batted in and on-base percentage. She also has extensive international softball experience, having played for the national teams for Australia and Great Britain.

"These two are a great fit here at Coastal," Dannelly said. "Having had Lockett as a player, she knows about the tradition of the program and the way we do things here. She will make an immediate impact, as she has been a top level player in the Big South and also can bring her knowledge from international play to the field. Cynthia has experience pitching in the Mountain West and in international play, and brings a level of maturity that our pitchers can learn from."
