CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University softball head coach Kelley Green has added former Chanticleer standout Chelsea Pineda to her staff for the upcoming season. Pineda will serve as the program's director of softball operations.
Pineda's primary responsibilities as director of softball operations include facilitating team and individual workouts, setting up practice and coordinating camps. Pineda will also supervise the programs' video services.
"We are excited to welcome back Chelsea to Coastal Carolina," said coach Green. "Her strong knowledge of the game along with the tremendous passion she has for the student-athlete experience will be great assets to our program. She is a highly motivated individual who pays close attention to detail and holds herself to the highest of standards."
Pineda previously served as an assistant coach at Albright College in Reading, Pa., where she was the program's hitting coach and instructed the catchers and infielders. In addition to her on-field duties, she corresponded with prospective student-athletes as well as coordinated the program's community service and fundraising campaigns.
During her Coastal playing career, the native of Coolidge, Ariz., helped guide the Chants to the 2012 Big South Conference tournament title and appearance in the 2012 NCAA Athens Regional. She earned second team all-conference honors as a junior in 2011. In addition, Pineda ranks among the CCU single season top-10 lists for games played (62 in 2012) and walks (31 in 2012).
Prior to her time at Coastal, Pineda spent two years at Yavapai College where she led the Roughriders to the 2009 NJCAA National Championship and earned NFCA Academic All-American status.
Pineda received her bachelor's degree in English from Coastal Carolina in 2012.
