Johnson, who finished with a 3.86 grade-point average in history, was named the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a member of the All-Academic Team. She also was the Player of the Year and a First Team All-Big South selection as a designated player. This season, Johnson led Coastal in batting average (.390), hits (55), home runs (20), slugging percentage (.894), on-base percentage (.511), runs batted-in (56), total bases (126) and walks (35). She led the Big South in walks and slugging percentage while placing second in home runs, runs batted-in and third in batting average. Johnsons 20 home runs this season set the all-time Coastal single season mark and her RBI total was the third best in a single season at CCU. She was named the Big South Player of the Week three times while also winning Big South Pitcher honors once. She became the first player in league history to ever be named both the Player and Pitcher of the Week in the same week, March 27. From the circle, Johnson had a record of 9-3 with a 1.76 earned-run average. In 95.1 innings pitched this year, Johnson amassed 101 strikeouts while only allowing 77 hits. Johnson was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Southeastern Region First Team as a utility player.
She helped lead Coastal to its first berth in the NCAA Softball Tournament since 2001 and its first regular season title since 2003 this season.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American program. The academic team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools around the country. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with a minimum grade point average of 3.20. Team members are selected by a vote of members of College Sports Information Directors of America on the national ballot after first being selected as a First Team members in each of the seven districts.
