Softball Will Play In NCAA Athens Regional

CONWAY - Hours after winning its first Big South Tournament Championship since the 2006 season, the Coastal Carolina softball team learned its road to the Women's College World Series starts as the No. 4 seed at the Athens Regional on May 18-20.

Coastal squares of with No. 1 seed and host Georgia at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 18 from Jack Turner Stadium. North Carolina will be the No. 2 seed and will play third-seeded Georgia Southern in its opening game at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Tickets for the 2012 NCAA Softball Regional at the University of Georgia are now available and can be purchased online or by phone through the Georgia Athletic Ticket Office.

Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can order online through the following link or by calling 1-877-542-1231. All fans can purchase tickets starting Monday at 9 a.m.

Regional booklets are on sale for $25 (reserved) / $20 (general admission) and will include a ticket for every game of the weekend. NOTE: Booklets will only be sold in advance of the Regional.

Single game tickets are $10 for reserved seats, $7 for general admission and $5 for senior citizen/students.

The winner of the Athens Regional matches up with the winner of the Knoxville Regional which features No. 7 Tennessee, Miami (Ohio), UAB and Virginia Tech in the Super Regionals.

The Chanticleers, who finished with a 13-8 Big South regular season record to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, secured their fifth NCAA Regional appearance by dispatching top-seeded Radford twice on Saturday in the double-elimination tournament before notching a 4-1 victory Sunday over third seed Charleston Southern, fueled by a 13 strikeout performance by Ashley Bagwell in the Big South Championship game.

Coastal, led by third-year head coach Kelley Green, racked up a 43-18 overall record to produce the program's most wins since the 1994 squad finished the season with a 44-15 record. The team's 40-plus wins are only the third time the Coastal program has achieved the prestigious platform.
