Softball's Frederick Named Second Team All-Academic
CONWAY, S.C.- Coastal Carolina softball player junior Ashley Frederick (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III Second Team, the organization announced last week.
Frederick, a junior finance major, holds a 3.96 GPA. On the year, she was 6-11 with a 4.18 ERA, and struck out 89 batters in 117 innings on the season. In game two of the March 25 doubleheader against Charleston Southern, she struck out a career-best 11 batters in the complete game effort, including striking out the side in the second inning. Her dominance failed to wane in the later innings, as she fanned the final two Lady Bucs she faced in the contest to help nail down the victory. On April 8, Coastal Carolina earned a 1-0 extra-innings win over the UNCW Seahawks. Frederick was dominant in the circle, taking a no-hit bid into the sixth inning, earning the win and fanned seven Seahawks in the victory.
Frederick’s 3.96 GPA was the highest of the 10 athletes named to the Second Team. She is one of three Big South athletes named to the squad, as Winthrop’s Lisa Kingsmore was named to the First Team, while fellow pitcher, Kellie Snooks of Radford was named to the Second Team.
Frederick will return to the squad next season for her senior year, as Coastal Carolina concluded its season with a 15-38 record.
