Softball's Johnson Among the National Leaders

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina’s softball team's (35-20, 10-2 Big South) senior Meagen Johnson (Georgetown, S.C./Georgetown (Furman)) is among the  national leaders in four offensive categories the NCAA announced this morning, May 10.

Johnson is currently second in the nation in home runs per game at .40 with 20 home runs in 50 games this season. She is also ranked second nationally in slugging percentage at .938, eighth in runs-batted in per game (1.12) and tied for 49th in batting average (.400).

Redshirt junior Christine Doyle (Rio Rico, Ariz./Immaculate Heart Academy (NJ)) is also among the nation's leaders as she is 31st in earned-run average (1.29).

As a team the Lady Chanticleers are 15th nationally in home runs at 0.98 home runs per game, with a school record 54 home runs in 55 games this season.

Coastal will open the 2006 Aeropostale Big South Softball Tournament on Thursday, May 11 against the winner of #4 seed Birmingham-Southern and #5 seed Winthrop at 5 p.m6
