CONWAY - Coming off a week in which she earned five victories in the circle and also hit two game-winning home runs, Kiana Quolas was named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Quolas helped Coastal Carolina go undefeated in six games, notching a 5-0 record and 1.08 ERA to earn her fourth conference Pitcher of the Week honor of the season. She won all three of her starts and notched two victories in relief while allowing just four earned runs, striking out 21 and walking only seven in 26 innings. She tossed seven-inning complete-games against UNC Wilmington and Presbyterian, and surrendered just one earned run in eight total innings of relief versus Charleston Southern and UNCW.
The Oxnard, Calif., native also came up huge at the plate, homering in three straight games, including a tiebreaker in the sixth inning against Charleston Southern and a walk-off shot to beat UNC Wilmington the following day. She is currently on a seven-game hitting streak and batted .500 (9-for-18) during the six contests last week, adding one double to go along with four RBIs and six runs scored.
With her conference-high 19 wins this season, Quolas now has 43 for her career, already moving into sixth place on Coastal's all-time list, passing Ashley Frederick. She also leads the Big South with a 1.95 ERA and 132 strikeouts this year and has now earned eight weekly conference honors in less than two full seasons.
Coastal (31-18, 16-5) plays its final home games of the season Tuesday as it hosts College of Charleston in a doubleheader, with the first game starting at 2 p.m. at Carolina Forest High School. The Chanticleers then close out the regular season with a three-game Big South series at Liberty on April 26 and 27.
