Chants Travel to Presbyterian College
The Coastal Carolina University softball team (19-26, 3-6 BSC) will travel to Presbyterian College for the Chants final Big South Conference three-game road series before the Big South Tournament May 12-14. The Chanticleers will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 22 with the first game slated to begin at 2 p.m. The final game of the three-game series will be played on Saturday, April 23 at 12 p.m.
Scouting Presbyterian College
The Blue Hose enter this weekend’s series coming off a doubleheader loss to Appalachian State on Wednesday, April 20. Presbyterian College is currently 6-6 in Big South play and ranked fourth after being picked to finish seventh in the Big South preseason poll. Key players for Presbyterian are sophomore outfielder Tera Powell, sophomore second baseman Morgan Durham and freshman Codee Yeske. Powell leads the Blue Hose with a .361 batting average, 43 hits and 29 stolen bases. Durham has totaled six home runs, 21 RBI and a .412 on-base percentage so far this season. Yeske leads the team with 26 runs, eight doubles and two triples. Ace pitcher and first baseman Leslie Hensley leads the pitchers with a 1.04 ERA, a 14-9 record, 22 game starts, 15 complete games, 148.1 innings pitched, 96 strikeouts and a .202 opponent batting average. Hensley is a three-time Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week and has been named Big South Conference Choice Hotels Softball Player of the Week the last two weeks in a row.
Series vs. Presbyterian College
Currently, the Chanticleers lead the overall series 6-2. The last meeting between the two teams was on April 25, 2010 when Coastal won 3-0. In the three-game series, the Chants went 2-1.

Chants Take Two From UNC Wilmington
After a 0-3 weekend at Radford, Coastal got back in the win column with two victories over UNC Wilmington April 19. The Chants recorded two shutouts, defeating the Seahawks 3-0 in game one and 9-0 in game two. Brooke Donovan, Cacia Pierre and Sarah Maples all recorded two hits in one of the games while Jazmin Daigle went 2-for-3 in both games with at least one RBI.
Edwards Throws Two-Hitter
Senior Katelin Edwards got her first start in the circle against UNC Wilmington since April 6 and threw a two-hitter with both hits coming in the second inning.
Pierre Joins Grand Slam Club
Sophomore Cacia Pierre joined freshman Jessie Winans in the grand slam club this season after hitting a four-run homer down the right field line to end the game after the fifth inning against UNC Wilmington April 19. It was Pierre’s fourth home run and Coastal’s third grand slam of the season.
Daigle Finds Sweet Spot
Sophomore Jazmin Daigle had a good weekend against the Highlanders despite the 0-3 record. Daigle went 4-for-9 with one double and one of the two RBI for the weekend. She finished with a .444 batting average and .556 slugging percentage.
Edwards Give Solid Performances in Relief
Senior Katelin Edwards had two solid relief appearances against Radford. She threw a total of 5.2 innings against the Highlanders, giving up only two hits while striking out three and holding the opposing batters to a .100 batting average.
Radford Sweeps Series Against Chants
Coastal recorded its first Big South Conference sweep as Radford won the games of the three-game series April 16-17. On Sunday, the Chanticleers played a doubleheader, falling 4-2 in game one and 8-1 in game two. In the top of the sixth inning of the first game, Coastal took a 2-1 lead, but a three-run homer put the Highlanders back on top. On Monday, Radford took the final game of the series 6-0.
Pineda Provides Game-Winner
In the final game of the three-game series against Charleston Southern, junior Chelsea Pineda ended the game in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run walk-off home run to give Coastal a 4-1 lead. Going into the seventh, the Chants were tied 1-1 with the Buccaneers.
Coastal Takes Final Game From Charleston Southern In Three-Game Series
After losing the first two games against Charleston Southern, Coastal answered back in the final meeting of the three-game series by defeating the Buccaneers 4-1 on April 13. The Chanticleers took a 1-0 lead after freshman Jessie Winans hit a solo home run. Charleston Southern tied the game in the top of the seventh, but junior Chelsea Pineda ended the game with a three-run walk-off home run to give Coastal a 4-1 lead.

The Chanticleers return home for the final two weekends of the regular season before heading to Winthrop for the Big South Conference Tournament. Coastal will face Gardner-Webb in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 and a single game on Sunday, May 1.
