CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina University softball team returns home and gets back to Big South Conference play this weekend when it hosts rival Liberty for a three-game series at Coastal Carolina Softball Stadium.
The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game airing live on ESPN3 at 1 p.m. It will be Coastal's first home softball game broadcast on the network. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for choice seating as a large crowd is expected.
The Coastal softball program will also be holding its Youth Day, with girls ages 6-12 in attendance for the first pitch of the game having the opportunity to participate in the team's clinic, which will follow Sunday's game.
The Chanticleers take a 23-11 overall record into the weekend and lead the Big South at 5-1. They began this week's play tied for the sixth-best team ERA in the NCAA, while Kiana Quolas stood seventh individually. Bri Chiusano was ranked tied for second in stolen bases per game and Kory Hayden shared fourth in home runs.
Liberty enters at 6-28 overall and 1-8 in conference play. The Flames have won four of their last nine following an 18-game losing streak. Coastal won all four meetings last season, including a 2-1 decision in an elimination game of the Big South Tournament, and leads the all-time series 33-29. The second game of Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale will be shown on the Big South Network.
Restrooms are now open in the new building, with access on the third base side of home plate. Concessions will still be provided at the Road Rooster Saturday.
