CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the fifth time in eight weeks this season, Coastal Carolina University's Kiana Quolas was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Quolas won both of her starts against Campbell last week without allowing an earned run in two complete games, helping the Chanticleers win the series on the road. She allowed just eight hits and one unearned run over the 14 combined innings, while recording 13 strikeouts and just three walks. She struck out six in the series opener on Wednesday before tossing a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in the rubber game on Thursday.
With the two performances, Quolas lowered her Big South-leading season ERA to 0.84. She has won four straight starts in Big South play while recording a 0.27 ERA over 26 innings. For the year, the junior righthander is now 15-4 with 113 strikeouts and only 23 walks in 125.2 innings.
Coastal (22-10) gets back in action on Wednesday for its final non-conference games of the season, traveling to UNC Wilmington for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. The Chanticleers then return home to host a weekend series against Big South rival Liberty. The first game of Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcast on ESPN3. First pitch for that game is set for 1 p.m. at Coastal Carolina Softball Stadium.
