Johnson Named Big South Softball Pitcher of the Week
Righthander earns first weekly honor after earning pair of wins
CHARLOTTE, N.C. Junior pitcher Meagen Johnson (Georgetown, S.C./Georgetown (Furman)) has been named the New Balance Big South Softball Pitcher of the Week, announced today by the league office. This is her first weekly honor at Coastal and the first honor for the Lady Chanticleers this season.
A transfer from Furman this year, Johnson was solid for Coastal over the weekend at the Carolina Classic, going 2-0 in her two appearances with a 0.64 ERA in 11 innings pitched. The righthander earned a 7-1 victory over Harvard, striking out four and giving up just two hits in the complete game victory. Johnson then came on in relief again against the Crimson, tossing four scoreless innings and giving up just one hit while striking out three to earn the win. She also helped out at the plate, going 4-for-14 with one double, one home run and an RBI during the weekend.
Coastal (15-14) returns to action on Thu., Mar. 31, hosting UNC Wilmington for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
