Chants Near Top of NCAA Rankings; Set To Face Campbell

Chiusano, Hayden among top five nationally in stolen bases and HR's; Quolas 11th in ERA

CONWAY - As the Coastal Carolina University softball team gets set to travel to Campbell for a key Big South Conference on Wednesday and Thursday, several Chanticleers find themselves ranking amongst the best in the nation in numerous statistical categories.

Bri Chiusano is ranked tied for second in the country in stolen bases per game (0.97), Kory Hayden is tied for fourth in home runs with 12 and Kiana Quolas is 11th with a 0.94 ERA.

Additionally, Chiusano is ranked 11th in on-base percentage (.566), 15th in runs per game (1.17) and tied for 20th in triples (3). Hayden is also tied for fourth in home runs per game (0.41) and tied for 20th in slugging percentage (.818), while Quolas is tied for 17th with five shutouts. As a team, Coastal moved up to 11th in the nation with an ERA of 1.47 and also stands tied for ninth in fielding percentage (.978).

The NCAA's first RPI rankings of the season were also released on Monday and Coastal stands at 68th in the nation and first among Big South Conference teams. Click here for the complete RPI list.

The three-game series between Coastal and Campbell begins with a doubleheader on Wednesday, with first pitch at 4 p.m. The final game is also scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Chanticleers won the Big South regular-season title by one game over Fighting Camels last season, and the two were picked first and second in the league's preseason poll this year.

Coastal (20-9 overall) is coming off of a three-game sweep of Gardner-Webb in its first conference series, while Campbell (19-14 overall) is 5-1 in conference play after sweeping Liberty and taking two of three against Radford.

For Campbell, freshman Milly Martinet ranks tied for first in the nation with 13 home runs and also leads the Big South with 39 RBIs. Two-time all-conference shortstop Ericka Nesbitt is hitting .347 with 15 RBIs, 16 runs and 15 stolen bases, while Courtney Klinger has nine home runs and 20 RBIs. Freshman pitcher Katie Baker is 8-5 with a 2.98 ERA and a conference-high 102 strikeouts, while sophomore Courtney Roberts is 5-4 with a 2.65 ERA.
