CONWAY - For the third time in four weeks, Coastal Carolina's Kiana Quolas has been named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Quolas went 3-0 with one save and a 1.01 ERA in five appearances in the circle last week, helping the Chanticleers win five of their six Big South Conference games.
She recorded consecutive shutouts against Longwood and Campbell, the conference's two leaders in hitting and runs scored. The sophomore right-hander limited Longwood to five hits in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday and followed up with a two-hitter against Campbell on Friday. She added another complete-game win over the Camels on Saturday night, while giving up just two earned runs.
In addition, Quolas notched her first save of the season in Tuesday's victory over Longwood. With Coastal holding a one-run lead in the sixth inning, she came on with runners on first and third and induced an inning-ending groundout and then worked a perfect seventh. Over her five appearances, she allowed four earned runs and 19 hits, struck out 22 and walked just three in 27.2 innings of work. At the plate, she had five hits, including two home runs, and also scored three runs.
Quolas is now 10-5 on the season with a Big South-leading 1.48 ERA and a conference-best six shutouts and 85 strikeouts. She has earned the Pitcher of the Week honor each of the last three weeks in which the Chants played games and now has seven weekly awards for her career.
Coastal (18-12, 5-1) returns to action Friday, March 29 when it begins a three-game series at Gardner-Webb with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
